Roles & Responsibilities

Philosophy

The Yard Loader is the leader at the sales facility, ensuring:

  • Appropriate leadership and direction are provided by the Supervisor to the Yard Loader in coordination with the Operations Manager.
  • Safe practices are followed by all individuals on the plant site and safe working conditions are maintained.
  • The product sent out or dropped off is always inspected to ensure a quality product is leaving or coming into the yard at all times.
  • The yard is operationally reliable 100% of the time by practicing preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Operational efficiency is managed and continuously improved through the monitoring of specific Key Performance Indicators.
  • Material quantities are efficiently managed, and administrative procedures are consistently followed.
  • A professional facility is maintained through good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure customers are loaded with the appropriate quantities of the desired material.
  • Dust mitigation.

Safety 

Personal Protective Equipment

The Yard Loader always enforces the wearing of appropriate safety equipment by all individuals in the yard, including the Yard Loader themselves.

Monthly Yard Inspections

The Yard Loader coordinates monthly yard inspections with the Production Manager.

Policies & Procedures

The Yard Loader adheres to and enforces all applicable safety policies and procedures mandated by Federal law or by CTI Policy. For example, all lock-out/tag-out procedures will be performed when working on plant and fleet equipment.

Fleet Inspections

The Yard Loader is responsible for the pre and post-inspection of the yard all equipment. Ensuring equipment is staying up to date all on maintenance needs.

Quality

Sampling

Assist with the quality control process. For example, collecting samples of material on site.  

Monitor Incoming & Outgoing Material Quality

The Yard Loader always assesses the quality of materials delivered in conjunction with yard personnel, quality control department, and material source personnel.

Raw Material Maintenance

The Yard Loader will always maintain raw material piles; as well as monitoring products going into raw material piles. 

Monitor Yard Functionality

Making sure the yard is running smoothly and efficiently. Any inefficiencies should be reported through the proper channels.

Yard Maintenance

Pre-Shift Inspection

Every morning before start-up, the Yard Loader performs a visual inspection to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and operational.

Yard Reliability

The Yard Loader ensures yard preventive maintenance functions are performed as directed by the Production Manager. Periodic inspections are performed to inspect equipment at the yard.

Operating Efficiency

Dust Control

Minimize dust per municipal and state requirements.

Key Performance Indicators

The Yard Loader is responsible for ensuring the following metrics are within tolerance, and along with the Production Manager, analyzes any negative trends in:

  • Raw Material Quantity
  • Load Time
  • Load Accuracy

Monitor Plant Speed

The Yard Loader ensures that the yard always performs at targeted capacity.

Materials Management

Continual Awareness Raw Material Inventory

The Yard Loader needs to be maintaining all raw material piles to the standard set by the Production Manager.  

Management

Has the ability to manage what is coming into and sent out of the yard, and accepts and rejects the correct material.

Administration

Paperwork Submitted Accurately & Timely

All paperwork must be eligible and written in the English language. 

Appearance

Plant

Housekeeping is prioritized, with the yard being free from weeds, debris accumulation, and obsolete equipment. Fuel and oil are always stored in an environmentally acceptable manner and closed. Signs are clean and visible around the yard.

Work Experience

  • Previous Experience: 1-3+ years of operating experience required
  • Education: High school diploma

Physical Requirements

Weather Conditions

Must be able to withstand all weather conditions. Conditions vary based on the different seasons in the work area; hot, cold, and wet conditions are typical.

Lifting

Must be able to lift power tools and other equipment 30+ pounds multiple times daily. Must be able to bend, twist, sit and maneuver body in awkward positions multiple times daily. Other lifting skills may be required.

Walking/Sitting

Must be able to handle walking on variable ground conditions. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods without discomfort.

Allergies

Must not be allergic to oils, solvents, gas fumes, and concrete raw materials.

Pre-Employment

Drug Screening

All applicants must test negative to a pre-employment drug screen.

Driving

Must possess a valid driver’s license and cannot be a high-risk rating. CDL preferred.

Concrete Finisher 1, 2, 3

Salary Range

Hourly & at Scale

Work Hours

Generally, 50-55 hours per week, 6:30 a.m. – 5:30p.m. Monday –Friday with some weekend work.

Position

Full Time, generally 45-50 weeks per year, with some out-of-town work required. 

General Description of Duties

Skill to do perform a variety of concrete finishing including floor finishing with machines, curb building, shoveling concrete, forming, and grading.

Detailed Description of Duties

Finisher 1

  • Masters all finishing duties including: setting forms, grading, puddling concrete material, building monolithic curbs, finishing floors with riding trowels, sawing floors/paving, mopping, straight edging, and operate common power equipment.
  • Must be ACI Certified.

Finisher 2

  • Generally, the same as a Finisher 1 but less versatile or single task capability.

Finisher 3

  • New hire, little or no experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Some hand tools required — this will be discussed on the first day of work.
  • As required by the assignment.
  • Valid Driver’s License is recommended, if not you will be responsible for finding your own way to and from the job sites.

Work Experience

  • 1-3 year’s commercial concrete experience preferred.
  • Must be familiar with each assigned staff member’s responsibilities and duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Must test negative on a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to handle extensive walking in variable site grades and conditions.
  • Must be able to withstand cold, warm, and wet conditions.
  • Must have the ability to maneuver, turn and twist in awkward positions without physical discomfort.
  • Must be able to bend or slump over for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 90 pounds up to 40 times daily.
  • Must be able to handle power tools and equipment up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time without discomfort.
  • Joints must be able to withstand jolting and continuous impact on joints and muscles.
  • Must not be allergic to oils, solvents, gas fumes or concrete raw materials, or dust.
  • Must have normal eyesight and the ability to decipher depth and height.
  • Must be able to handle physical exertion.

Concrete Saw Operator 1, 2, 3

Salary Range

Hourly & at Scale

Work Hours

Generally, 50-55 hours per week. Hours of work vary, can work Monday-Saturday.

Position

Full Time, generally 45-50 weeks per year, with some out-of-town work required.

General Description of Duties

Manual work consisting of measuring, marking, chalking lines, and sawing. May be asked to perform other duties, such as core, profile, and drill concrete.

Detailed Description of Duties

Saw Operator 1

  • Multi-task laborer.
  • Understands joint details in plans and marks concrete accordingly. If no detail is provided, mark concrete suitable according to the thickness and overall design.
  • Operate saws necessary to complete the job.

Saw Operator 2

  • Generally the same as Operator 1, but less versatile or single task capability.

Other Qualifications

  • As required by the assignment.

Educational & Technical Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. CDL license preferred.

Work Experience

  • 1-3 years of commercial concrete experience preferred.
  • Must be familiar with each assigned staff member’s responsibilities and duties.

Safety

Personal Protective Equipment

The Delivery Professional always wears the appropriate safety equipment, including:

  • Hard hat, 
  • Work boots,
  • Safety glasses, 
  • Safety vest, and 
  • Hearing protection, as appropriate. 

Daily Vehicle Inspections

  • The Delivery Professional thoroughly performs required daily vehicle inspections to prevent mechanical problems that could result in a safety incident.
  • The Delivery Professional provides a written report to the Plant Operator for approval daily.
  • Any safety-related mechanical conditions should be directed to the Plant Operator immediately. 

Defensive Driving

  • The Delivery Professional drives defensively, using principles consistent with the company’s safety policy.
  • Drivers observe basic principles of road courtesy and never violate state or federal hours of service regulations. 

Alertness On The Job Site

  • The Delivery Professional is alert on the job site and in the plant, always following job site/plant instructions, and is continuously watchful of potential hazards.
  • They communicate any unsafe situations immediately to dispatch.

Quality

Product Quality

  • The Delivery Professional is responsible for the slump, quantity, material size, color, and extra products in loads of concrete.
  • Communicates job site issues to management promptly via ticket or mobile telephone, whichever is appropriate to the situation. 
  • When relevant, the Delivery Professional should communicate job site issues that may impact company interests. For example, if the Delivery Professional notices a test improperly performed by an inspector, the Plant Operator should be discreetly notified. 
  • All water added on the job site should be recorded on the delivery ticket, including noting ‘zero gallons’ if none is added. 
  • The Delivery Professional must always have the delivery ticket and damage waiver signed by the person receiving concrete on the job site.

Operating Efficiency

Submission of Accurate Time Information

The Delivery Professional accurately records time information using the Trak-It truck tracking device. They must always use Trak-It promptly to ensure an accurate record of status times is created for both current and future reference.

Adherence To Time Standards

  • The Delivery Professional adheres to the allotted time standards, taking an average of fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the evening for start-up and shutdown time, respectively.
  • Each day, the Delivery Professional strives for efficiency while simultaneously making safety and quality priorities.
  • The Delivery Professional is an integral part of the company team and should submit improvement ideas and suggestions to management.

Directions

  • The Delivery Professional follows the ticketed route pre-planned by Dispatch, selecting the most direct and safe course.
  • Traffic conditions and special circumstances are communicated to dispatch and/or the Plant Operator promptly to aid in both decision making and the routing of future loads. 

Customer Service

A Service Attitude

The Delivery Professional endeavors to anticipate and fulfill all customer needs that do not infringe upon safety or product integrity. Their attitude should be cheerful and pleasant, with a sense of urgency.  

Handling Complaints

The Delivery Professional avoids confrontation with the customer, directing all customer complaints to dispatch for distribution to management. 

Appearance

Personal

The Delivery Professional is always cleanly groomed, dressed in accordance with company policy, and is in good mental and physical condition. 

Trucks

The Delivery Professional’s truck should be constantly kept in clean condition. The cab is kept clean and neat, and the exterior of the cab and the mixer are free from built-up concrete, road debris, and oil. 

Requirements

  • Must possess a Class A or Class B with Air Brakes CDL and pass a DOT driver background check. 
  • You must be able to maintain your CDL while employed.

Cell Phone Use

None while driving — DOT Law & Company Policy.

Assistance With Plant 

When requested, the Delivery Professional helps with plant maintenance and keeping the plant clean and neat.

Harassment Policy

Work Classification

Concrete Laborer 1, 2, 3

Salary Range

Hourly and at Scale

Work Hours

Generally, 50-55 hours per week, 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday –Friday with some weekend work.

Position

Full Time, generally 45-50 weeks per year, with some out-of-town work required.

General Description Of Duties

Manual work consisting of lifting, shoveling, sawing, hammering, and puddle concrete material.

Detailed Description Of Duties

Laborer 1

  • Multi-task laborer. 
  • Set forms, grade, puddle, install rebar, operate power equipment, and saw. 
  • Can perform all labor tasks.

Laborer 2

  • Generally, the same as a Laborer 1, but less versatile or single task capability.

Laborer 3

  • Generally, a new hire or a worker with little or no labor experience.
  • Tasks may include cleaning, hand grading, shoveling concrete and sand, handling materials, and installing rebar or mesh.

Other Qualifications

  • Hand tool requirements (see attached list) (Payroll deduction available if necessary)
  • As required by assignment.
  • Valid Drivers License is recommended; if not, you will be responsible for finding your way to and from the job sites.

Position

Full Time, generally 45-50 weeks per year, with some out-of-town work required. 

General Description Of Duties

An onsite management position responsible for direct supervision of staff production activities. Must possess the skill and talent to manage and maintain up to 12 onsite field production employees.

Detailed Description Of Duties

  • The duties of a Supervisor are generally the same as a Superintendent but act under the direct supervision of a Production Manager or Superintendent.
  • Ability to layout, plan, communicate, organize and direct assigned staff. Must be able to maintain a production schedule for 3 working days.
  • Prepare administrative reports, time cards, daily reports, and documents as assigned by the direct supervisor.
  • Must hire, train and discipline production staff members.
  • Maintain, clean, and manage assigned equipment and tools.
  • Construct all projects in strict accordance with the plans and specifications.
  • Schedule and coordinate subcontractors and vendors.
  • Work in direct accordance with current OSHA safety regulations and be the designated onsite safety supervisor.
  • Efficiently and effectively produce projects.
  • Must be able to identify and manage high-risk projects, tasks, and site conditions.
  • Always produce a high-quality work product with no defects.
